LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
Weather data can be confusing
To the Editor: Your June 27 front-page article ("A blast of summer") had an inconsistency that sometimes pops up when reporting Bucks County weather. That is the comparison of Doylestown and Philadelphia data.
The article reported that the June 26 record high temperature was 100 degrees (1952) and that the Thursday high of 93 was "well shy" of this record. The record quoted is the Philadelphia Airport record for the date. In fact, the airport did hit 97, which was not too far off the record. The 93 reported was Doylestown Airport's high temperature. Doylestown Airport is a relatively new weather station with no long-term climatological history.
Also, the data shown in the graphic that accompanied the article did not correspond to archived Doylestown Airport data. In fact, no source for the data in the graphic was given.
