Choosing a name was a difficult process for us. We went through many possibilites. In the end we chose a name that honored both of our heritages.

Shira means beautiful song or beautiful poem, and comes from the Song of Solomon in the Old Testament. The name was suggested by an Israeli colleage of Sung's, and was further endorsed by a patient of her's who was also from Israel.

Nabi means butterfly in Korean. We were looking for a name that had a beautiful connotation and was easy to spell and pronounce by English speakers. Sung's Aunt, Jennifer Park (aka "Chicago Emo"..."Emo" means "Aunt" in Korean) suggested it at an impromptu family dinner at our condo just 8 days before the surprise birth. In fact, in the photo above Chicago Emo may very well be explaining to Sung the merits of the name Nabi.
