Shira Nabi Hanauer
 |
Week Two |
By Shira's second week of life she was breathing completely on her own and all tubes were finally out. Because the NICU was overflowing, and because she was one of the healthiesst babies in the NICU, she was transferred to one of the general pediatrics floors of the hospital.

Sleeping comfortably.

Shira was eating better and better every day. Here she is taking expressed breast milk through a bottle.

A happy and content little girl.

Sung and Shira spending time together in the hospital room.

The probes on Shira's head are for her hearing test, known as as the brainstem auditory evoked response (BAER) test. Because she can't tell us what she can hear, sounds are generated in her ear and the brain waves are picked up and measured to see if she is responding to the sounds appropriately. She passed the test.

Waiting to be discharged from the hospital.
