This is the "Dying Lion of Lucerne," in Lucerne, Switzerland. It was carved in 1812 out of stone. It memorializes the death of the Swiss soldiers who died in France trying to protect Louis XIV and Marie Antoinette from the angry mobs in 1792 during the revolution. Mark Twain once remarked that this sculpture was "the saddest and most moving piece of rock in the world."
